AMAZON WOMEN WILL CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE FROM THEIR TERRITORIES AND WAIT FOR A PRONOUNCEMENT FROM THE ASSEMBLY<\/p>\n

Today at 2:00 p.m., at the CONAIE offices, the spokespersons for the Mobilization of Women for Life spoke before the media following their morning visit to the National Assembly.
\nPatricia Gualinga, leader of the women of the Sarayaku community, commented that, although they were received by the plenary and delivered an official petition to the president of the Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira, they did not receive any response. In addition, they noted that at the end of his speech the quorum was barely being verified, so they consider that his statement was not taken into account within the day's agenda and as an official issue.<\/p>\n

\"marina\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In response to this, they have given the Assembly two days to make an official statement on their visit and request. If they do not receive it, on Wednesday, October 23, they will begin their return to their communities in different towns in the Amazon, from where they will maintain the resistance at all costs. In the words of Gualinga, "No more oil companies will enter the Amazon and we will defend this position from our territories to the last consequences." Part of the actions that will come in the case of not receiving an official response within the established period, will be the mobilization of resources of international law.
\nAmong the main proposals of the document delivered to the Assembly are: the repeal of Decree 1247 for being illegitimate in failing to comply with international standards and those stipulated in the Sarayaku sentence; the request for an independent international oversight in all the blocks that are in indigenous and Amazonian territories, with the participation of the UN, OAS and international organizations for the protection of rights; and the declaration of the "Kawsak Sacha - Living Forest", sacred territory and cultural heritage of the native peoples, as a proposal of collective authorship for the preservation, conservation and coexistence of the Amazonian forest of the south center of Ecuador.<\/p>\n

Women for Life are grateful for the solidarity they have received from various organizations and social groups that support the proposal, and call on all citizens to join efforts around the conservation and respect for life. At the end of the press conference, they received a visit from the Maizal Maracumbo Association and the Esmeraldas Women's Collective, who came to give their full support to the Mobilization and to any action that the Amazonian indigenous peoples undertake in pursuit of defending the territory.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
