The leaders of the Shuar, Achuar, Shiwiar, Sapara and the
Kichwa people of Sarayaku announced that they will not allow abusive income
of the oil industry in their territories. The new oil round
seriously endangers life, health, social peace and
integrity of nature and therefore the nationalities that inhabit the
center-south of the Ecuadorian Amazon will not allow the imposition of a
project that destroys nature, and that puts nationalities at the
edge of genocide.
The Assemblies of nationalities and their federations have made several
pronouncements expressing their refusal to accept the XI Oil Round,
however, the Government insists on announcing that it will hand over the territories
indigenous to oil companies.
The nationalities reject the so-called prior consultation that supposedly
is being carried out by the Hydrocarbons Secretariat because it does not comply
established by ILO Convention 169, the Constitution of Ecuador and the
Judgment of the Inter-American Court in the Sarayaku Case. The regulation in
the one on which the supposed consultation is based has not been done with the participation
of the communities that are going to be consulted, does not seek to reach the
consent of those consulted, is not free because the
presence of State officials in indigenous territories in
against the will of the peoples and nationalities and is not informed
because the communities are not given true and real data on the
environmental and social impacts of the activity but only propaganda
and attempted division of the families of the communities
We reject the insults and disqualifications made by the President
of the Republic in the Saturday chains against the peoples and
nationalities that are in resistance and their leaders. That shows that
it is an authoritarian, racist government closed to dialogue.
The indigenous nationalities and organizations will resist the invasion
oil company in our territories framed in our rights
constitutional rights and we will call for a peaceful march for the defense
of our rights and our territories.
