LIVING JUNGLE

.

Since time immemorial, the Original Peoples settled in the Amazon region have lived in harmony with the Pachamama and in balance with the ecosystems. The Jungle, for the original Amazonian peoples, is life, it is Kawsak Sacha (Living Jungle). Each space has its protective beings, in each of these places there are Llakta (villages) with populations called Runa, which are also the houses and shelters of the animals. This allows us to maintain the cultural roots, foundations of identity and continuity of our existence.

Kawsak Sacha (Living Jungle) is a philosophy of life and a way of living with the Pachamama that is born from the ancient wisdom of the Original Peoples who live in the Amazon Jungle.

The Kawsak Sacha declaration contributes to solving major socio-environmental problems, such as climate change. It is a declaration to safeguard the welfare of all living beings of the Pachamma, through the recognition of a new binding legal category of conservation of the territories for all the original peoples of the world.

With this vision, Kawsak Sacha's proposal has been presented at various international events such as COP21 in Paris and COP23 in Bonn, at the World Conservation Congress in Hawaii and Sydney, at the Global Landscape Forum in Germany.

In this context, the Kichwa Native People of Sarayaku presents the Kawsak Sacha declaration, in the city of Quito, on the sixth anniversary of the judgment of the Sarayaku Case of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, from July 25 to 29, 2018.
